Om Ham Retreat, Ubud

Last week I spent 5 glorious days being all healthy and wholesome at the beautiful Om Ham Retreat in Ubud.

For some reason in this life, I tend to either be drinking all the green juices and eating all the kale, or I’m a borderline alcoholic living off pizza and cigarettes. There is no in-between.

So, after drinking most of the Bintang’s on Gili T, I decided it was time for some healthiness and detoxing.

This little gem of a place is fairly new (it’s been open a year, I think) and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. Surrounded by rice paddies, you’ve got a huge pool next to the restaurant and a giant Ganesha statue right in the middle of everything.

They also have a spa where I had an amazing 1.5 hour massage, and the daily Kundalini Yoga and meditation classes take place on the roof overlooking the gardens.

Now, let’s talk about the food.

Oh my God, the food. All the fruit and vegetables come from the retreat’s very own garden, so they’re totally organic and really fresh. Every day I’d start with a fruit salad and tea, then it’d usually be a smoothie and a salad for lunch, then a tofu curry or something similar for dinner.

I’ve never felt so healthy and I even lost a few pounds too (insert dancing lady emoji here).

As you can see, this was the perfect place to end my trip.

I’d definitely recommend it to couples and solo travellers who have a bigger budget (this was a splurge for me), but if you don’t have the funds, then you can stay at Ashram Munivara next door (being a dorm, it’s way cheaper). It’s actually part of Om Ham too, so you still get to take the same classes and use the pool and restaurant etc.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram and Twitter, you’ll know that I made a massive fuck up on my last day here.

I booked my flight for Monday 25th April at 00.35 which I thought was Monday night. As most people would have probably realised, it is in fact, ahem, Sunday night.

Cheers 24 hour clock.

Also, why am I not in MENSA?

After feeling slightly embarrassed at the check-in desk after the lady politely informed me that my flight was yesterday, I managed to find a cheap hotel in Kuta and re-book my flight for the following day which cost…(I can barely type this)…£300.

So fucking annoying.

Note to self: avoid booking flights after midnight if you can’t tell the time.

This may be my biggest (and most expensive) travel fuck up to date, but I can’t be sure as I do a lot of stupid shit.

On the plus side though, I got to spend one more day by the sea in beautiful Bali and savour one more Nasi Goreng and Bintang.

Every cloud and all that.

Ah god, that is so something I would do with the flights, the amount of times I’ve had to rebook transport and wasted money sucks 😦 They should make it clearer for idiots like us ahah :’)
