Despite 2016 being well, a bit shit, it did have some pretty amazing moments too. I always find that no matter how bad things may seem, if you can manage to squeeze in some new experiences and do a bit of travelling, you’re reminded what life is really about.
Which for me, is having fun, creating memories you can be proud of and being around good people.
Oh, and food, obviously.
I’m not sure what’s on the menu for 2017, but my plan is to find more writing jobs that aren’t location-dependent, so that I can work on the road. Then it’s hello to Highland road trips, long weekends in Europe and working from my laptop by the sea. Wish me luck!
This year I managed to tick something pretty huge off my bucket list – a trip to Iceland! First things first, I was not prepared for the level of cold AT ALL. I mean, I had all the right gear and everything, but I was still frozen to the core. I even had snot icicles on my nose.
I’m not kidding.
Highlights of this trip were going into a glacier, and the amazing views I saw whilst snowmobiling. Read about it, here.
Oh, Bali. I must confess, this year was actually the third time I’ve visited this island.
I don’t know why, but it draws me back every time. Actually, I do know why. It’s the friendly locals, amazing food and beautiful shore of the Gili Islands. Gili T (pics below) feels like my second home now, and back in April I stayed for 2 weeks to volunteer at the cat and horse clinics. Read about it, here.
The Scottish Highlands
Once again, despite cold weather not really being my thang, I’ve always been desperate to visit the Highlands. So this year, I did!
It was just two girls, one car (not cup) and a lot of wine. The views from Glasgow to Isle of Skye were unbelievable, and it was really good to enjoy some fresh air and silence. Read about it all here.
Happy new year and thank you to anyone who reads this blog! It’s much appreciated.
